Who better to show you how to tie The Single Knot then the man Calvin Klein accredited for teaching him about neckwear: XMI Founder and Lead Designer Bert Pulitzer. In this first posting of XMI Interactive, Bert instructs you through an interactive, step-by-step gallery for your reference.
Of course, for maximum effect you will need an XMI Tie, as no other tie will knot (or look) as magnificent.
Now mommy doesn't have to come to the rescue!
(Step. 1) Drape the XMI Tie around your neck with collar up. The narrow end of the tie should be at least 2 inches above your belt. Adjustments may vary as it depends on the weight of the silk. Each tie is different.
(Step. 2) Cross the large end over the short.
(Step. 3) Bring the large end around and under the small end from left to right.
(Steps. 4-6) Keeping hold of the narrow end, loop the large end completely around the narrow end. Finishing where you started.
(Steps. 7-9) Again, keep a firm grasp, take the large end up and through the 'loop' you created from the back so it now hangs over the front.
(Steps. 10-12) Now thread the large end through the front of the knot.
(Step. 13) Now, this is a very important step as it is the first time your tying a new tie.
Get a pencil or ball point pen, slip it thru horizontal under the large end as shown to align and perfectly 'square' the knot.
(Step. 14) With the index finger create the 'Dimple' before pulling to complete the knot.
(Step. 15) Use the small end to tighten the knot.
(Step. 16) Finish by pulling on the large end while keeping the face of the knot band straight.
(Step. 17) Make final adjustments where you see fit.
(Step. 18) There you have it, the best knot in the business.
Now look in the mirror and tell yourself, "You're The Man!"
